Business health check

Five readings from eight numbers you already have.

  • Gross margin—Not enough figures
  • Net margin—Not enough figures
  • Current ratio—Not enough figures
  • Days to collect—Not enough figures
  • Cash covers running costs for—Not enough figures

These are rules of thumb that differ by trade. Treat them as the start of a talk with your accountant, not a verdict.

An estimate for information only, not legal or tax advice. Nothing you type here is sent anywhere.

Five numbers tell an owner most of what they need: gross margin (does each sale earn enough?), net margin (does the company earn?), current ratio (can it pay what falls due?), days to collect (how long is your money with customers?) and cash cover (how many months of running costs are in the bank?). The labels here are rules of thumb, which differ by trade.
